Learn to apply Solution-Focused (SF) practice in your OD & Change Work in organisations with Chris Iveson & Susanne Burgstaller!
As some of you might know I have been working in and with organisations – both as a manager and as a consultant – for the last 25 years. Around 1998 I discovered Solution-Focus, and it proved to be a game-changer for me personally and for my work as organisational coach and consultant. Learning from Steve and Insoo in the very early 2000s helped me put all my reading into practice.
Meeting BRIEF in 2012 and, as a consequence, applying their version of SF, further turbo-charged my work. I suddenly started to have impact in ways and situations I would not have thought possible before, such as changing a conflict-ridden board team by coaching just one member, or effecting change in a well-established bureaucracy working just on my own.
Chris Iveson has been my teacher and mentor in the last few years, and I could not have achieved what I did without him. Also, I now enjoy my work so much more! 🙂 So I am very happy and proud that he has agreed to teach this course together with me, and I am sure we will jointly discover many new and effective ways of doing SF OD work.
Who may benefit from this workshop and how? – Our Dream Participants
- You might be an SF colleague who has so far worked with individuals or smaller teams. You may want to expand your repertoire to larger units or whole organisations, or to shift your work into the context of organisations.
- You might be a well-seasoned OD practitioner equipped with traditional OD methods, who wants to add the SF toolset to your “bag of tricks”.
- You might be a leader or staff member intending to effect or facilitate change in your organization with greater ease and more impact.
For those of you (relatively) new to SF: What is SF, and what could be your benefit from applying SF in organisations?
Solution-Focus is an effective approach to change with growing popularity also in the context of organisations. It boasts of some very specific and impactful methods, attitudes and a working process which foster positive change in organizations in remarkably efficient ways. Solution-focused practice is characterized by a firm focus on the preferred future and what the clients or staff members want, a focus on resources, an anticipation of cooperation instead of resistance in change processes, description instead of explanation, minimalism and pragmatism, appreciation, and many more indicators.
The original inventors of SF Brief Therapy, Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg, explored and invented new methods of creating “solutions” (which basically stands for “what clients want for their future”) originally in the context of social work. Their ideas have been applied by people like me and my colleagues in the context of organisations for the last 20 years. This transfer has yielded a very effective “change-set” of tools, processes and assumptions. It allows leaders and consultants to effect and implement change in a much easier and faster way.
